CLAUDIA HERSZ AT THE CHÁCARA DO CÉU MUSEUM

Artist Claudia Hersz has just launched her work “MaoCunaíma“, within a special commemorative edition of the program “Os Amigos da Gravura” [ Friends of Engraving ], a pioneering action to encourage national artistic production, promoted by the Castro Maya Museums.

In the context of this launching, Hersz also presents a new exhibition, bringing together approximately 50 works from her series “One Mao per day” [#onemaoperday].

This emblematic on-going series re-founds the myth of the great oppressor, which is reduced here to the format of a bibelot. Converted into white canvases, these small Maos can be anything, they compose a kind of “non-project” by the artist, an I-Ching proposed from the materials she finds, an oracle that – in a metaphor of life – deals with temporal fluidity and the unexpected of existence.

The exhibition runs until January 2023 at the Chácara do Céu Museum, located in Santa Tereza, Rio de Janeiro. A special book will soon be released, including all visual documentation of the series, as well as a critical text by curator Alexandre Sá and a presentation text by the artist.
