MULAMBÖ TAKES PART IN GROUP SHOW AT INCLUSARTIZ CULTURAL CENTER

The group show “From Avenue to Harmony: more than a century of Carnival in downtown Rio de Janeiro” is on display at Inclusartiz Cultural Center until March, 10. Curated by Victor Gorgulho, the exhibition proposes to investigate the most diverse manifestations of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival over the last century – especially in the central area of the city and its surroundings –, through historical records and contemporary art works. Mulambö participates displaying part of his emblematic series of paintings “G.R.E.S.” (see gallery below), which brings an intimate and personal view on Carnival and samba from the perspective of those who embody the “pavilion” (a samba school “habitat”). “G.R.E.S.” is a work in process, from which the artist has been building the memory of a samba school that is not meant to be a specific one, but all of them. Founded in 1997 by Frances Reynolds, Instituto Inclusartiz is a non-profit, non-governmental cultural organization based in Rio de Janeiro, whose goal is to promote global contemporary art through educational programs aimed at artists, curators and researchers at different stages of their careers.
