Opening this week the 35th Sao Paulo Biennial, the largest art exhibition in the country. Entitled “Choreographies of the Impossible“, this edition is curated by Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel, and echoes the voices of the diasporas and of native peoples in works by more than 100 artists and collectives.
One of the highlights is the artist Ayrson Heráclito, who presents, in partnership with Tiganá Santana, the installation “Floresta de Infinitos” [ Forest of Infinities ], an immersive forest made of bamboo and built in a labyrinthine path that takes up a large space in the Biennial Pavilion.
The idea of the work, according to Heráclito, is to serve as “a space for the enchanted”, a tribute to the guardians of the forests, from indigenous people to activists, priests and babalorixás, who emerge as “apparitions” in projected images.
The 35th Sao Paulo Biennial is on display at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion – Ibirapuera Park – until December, 6th. Free admission on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays (from 10 am to 7pm); and on Thursdays and Saturdays (from 10 am to 9 pm). Don’t miss it!
