Inhotim presents “Direito à forma” [ Right to the form ], a group show that takes place at Galeria Fonte displaying 60 works by more than 30 artists in dialogue with the new acquisitions of the museum’s collection. Ayrson Heráclito and Mulambö – both represented by Portas Vilaseca – take part in the exhibition.
All works present different temporalities that seek to expand the possibilities of the black presence in artistic creation, overcoming figurative issues and understanding Brazilian art through this approach.
Mulambö presents the work “Terra Estrelada” [ Starry land ] (2021), a new look at the American flag to honor the Latin American communities that helped build the country. The new colors and shapes applied to the fabric arise from references to libertarian movements that marked the history of the entire continent and also from the mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
On the other hand, Ayrson Heráclito presents the installation “Divisor III” [ Divider III ] (2002), a glass tank filled with water, salt and palm oil. This work reflects on the dilemma of the Atlantic diaspora and their consequences, pointing out a dialectic between connection and disjunction.
Curated by Deri Andrade, Igor Simões and Jana Janeiro, “Direito à forma” is part of the Abdias Nascimento Program and the Black Art Museum. On display until March 2024. Don’t miss it!
