Artist Randolpho Lamonier is one of the highlights of the exhibition “Arte Subdesenvolvida” [ Underdeveloped Art ], which has just opened at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Centre in Belo Horizonte (MG), following a season at the institution’s São Paulo location. Curated by Moacir dos Anjos, the exhibition is organized by decades and thematic axes, featuring works by more than 40 artists centered around the concept of “underdevelopment”—a term coined after World War II to describe the economic and social conditions of countries considered poor, which today are referred to as “emerging” or “developing countries.”
Lamonier presents “Sonhos de Refrigerador – Aleluia Século 2000” [ Refrigerator Dreams – Hallelujah 2000th Century ], a monumental installation commissioned specifically for this exhibition, which occupies the unit’s courtyard. The work brings together objects that embody the consumer dreams of working-class people, as heard by the artist on the streets of São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. As a living work, the installation accumulates new dreams from local residents in each city it visits. The exhibition arrives in Rio de Janeiro in February 2025. Don’t miss it!
