ARTHUR PALHANO`S DEBUT IN NEW YORK CITY

Arthur Palhano is exhibiting for the first time in New York (USA), at Mama Projects. The show Partial Objects showcases the Rio de Janeiro-born artist’s most recent works in dialogue with pieces by American artist Kian McKeown.

In his paintings and drawings, Palhano explores the unexpected proximity between seemingly unrelated images, using elements such as vintage advertisements from the 1970s and 80s, motifs from classic paintings, and children’s symbols like hearts and trees. His work also reflects the environment in which it is displayed, incorporating local icons alongside religious and popular symbols. The artist employs a technique that involves covering an initial image with multiple layers of paint and then sculpting it, creating a dubious sensation of enchantment and disorientation. By juxtaposing worldly and theological imagery, Palhano seeks to “level” our experience of the divine.

Visits from Thurs to Sat (12 – 6 pm) until 3 Oct. More info: @mamaprojects.co
