Antonio Pichillá is featured in the group exhibition ‘Essay on the Earth’, on view at the Simões de Assis gallery, in São Paulo, until 20 July. Curated by Thierry Freitas, the show brings together 20 artists from various generations and diverse backgrounds. Their practices celebrate a multiplicity of perspectives and experiences related to the environment. The works on display offer reflections on contemporary issues through explorations of climate, flora, fauna, myths, and interspecific relationships, often incorporating organic and biological materials.
The Guatemalan artist presents an oil painting on burnt canvas, as well as two works on fabric, which point to his research into the culture, symbols and ancestral knowledge of his people, the Maya Tz’utujil.
