Ayrson Heráclito

A visual artist, curator, PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP and professor at the University of Reconcavo da Bahia, in the city of Cachoeira, Bahia, Brazil. He is also an Ogã Sojatin (master in the Jeje nation) of a Jeje Mahi Humpame (a temple that worships the Voduns of the Jeje Mahi Candomblé lineage) in the city of Salvador, Bahia. His research focuses on elements of Afro-Brazilian culture and its connections between Africa and the diaspora in the Americas. His works take the form of installation, performance, photography and video. In 2017, Heráclito participated in the Venice Biennale, presenting his iconic series "Sacudimentos", and more recently, in 2023, he was invited to develop a commissioned work for the 35th Bienal de São Paulo.
