Opening this Friday (25th) in Düsseldorf, at the Sammlung Philara Museum, “Adjustable Monuments“, a group show featuring the participation of our represented artist Ayrson Heráclito.
The exhibition starts from the debate around the reassessments of popular signs of memory based on one-dimensional and exclusive narratives. Nine artistic positions illuminate aspects of current opinion on statues, monuments and memorials, and are complemented by new forms of memory culture.
Heráclito participates with his iconic work “Sacudimentos”, previously presented as a video installation at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017). In this work, “shaking” performative actions exorcise 2 historic buildings from their colonial and slavery past – both are situated on opposite sides of the Atlantic: Casa da Torre, in Bahia; and the Maison des Esclaves, on the island of Gorée, Senegal.
“Adjustable Monuments” runs until June. More information at: www.philara.de
