This Friday (25 Nov) and Saturday (26 Nov), the 8th edition of Bolsa Pampulha comes to an end with the opening of the exhibition “Botar fé“, which takes place in 2 addresses in the city of Belo Horizonte (MG) – the Museum of Arts and Crafts (MAO), and the Viaduto das Artes, a cultural center located in Barreiro, on the outskirts of the capital of Minas Gerais, which functioned as a studio space for the 16 artists in residency selected for this edition of the program.
Artist Pedro Neves – represented by Portas Vilaseca Galeria – presents a panel with 25 small-format canvases (highlighted on the gallery below), in addition to 2 analogue photographic prints. The paintings were conceived as self-portraits and emerge from the artist’s research on masking and facial expressions. Encompassed by exaggeration and softness – and inspired by the reading of Umberto Eco – Neves explored references such as the history of traditional Brazilian, Japanese and Indian art.
According to the artist, the residency was as an opportunity to develop a complete work – including technique, concept and aesthetics – not to mention the possibility of exchanges provided by the program, curated this year by Amanda Carneiro and Raphael Fonseca, with the support from artists Brígida Campbell, Marcel Diogo, Laura Belém and filmmaker Gabriel Martins.
