Friday is day to download for free another publication of an artist represented by Portas Vilaseca Galeria in its PDF version. The copy arriving today in our virtual library is the catalogue of the exhibition “Le Petit Musée”, by artist Ismael Monticelli, curated by Raphael Fonseca, which took place in 2016 when the gallery was still based in the Leblon neighbourhood, in Rio de Janeiro. In this show, Monticelli conceived an imaginary museum with three rooms that progressively overlap over the same curatorial project. The works presented came after a field research developed by the artist in the warehouse of the Vilaseca family’s framing factory in Bonsucesso (a neighbourhood in the north side of Rio de Janeiro), which indicates his interest in understanding more about the stories of the exhibition spaces where his works will be shown. In addition to the appropriation of different types of frames and discarded or never collected works of art, there is also the usage of some remaining kitsch souvenirs from the souvenir shop – Le Petit Musée – that the family kept open for some years at the Museum of the Republic. Rearranged and reinterpreted in the three rooms proposed for the show, these objects end up unveiling a new museum, where the fruition is revamped by issues that involve not only the time of the objects, but also the time of the institutions and artistic endeavours. Besides all photos of the show, the catalogue also features a critical essay by curator Raphael Fonseca (in Portuguese only).
