Opening this Saturday (Feb 5) in Rome,”A Lâmina e a Língua” [ The Blade and the Tongue ], the first solo show of our represented artist Élle de Bernardini outside Brazil.
Through various allusions to the complexity of language (in the socio-political, psychological, physical, legal and cultural spheres), the show deals with both the life and work of Bernardini and trans people’s condition of life in general (in Brazil their life expectancy is less than 35 years).
Curated by Tiago de Abreu Pinto, “A Lâmina e a Língua” brings as its central work “Operação Tarântula” (highlighted in the post), which evokes an operation against trans women organized by the State Police of São Paulo in 1987 and the technique of defending themselves by hiding razor blades under their tongue.
In addition to presenting some of the artist’s previous works, the exhibition also includes new works developed specifically for this project, including three performances that will be presented during the opening this Saturday.
“A Lâmina e a Língua” is on diaplay at Galleria Gilda Lavia and rit uns until April 16.
