This year, we have invited artist Julia Debasse to develop a work that manifests our wishes for a new year full of good vibrations to all friends and partners.
In the painting “Triumph“, Debasse continues her research on the Brazilian fauna and flora, this time highlighting the “siriema”, an endemic bird known for feeding on snakes and for a chant that announces the rain. Also inspired by Nelson Cavaquinho’s iconic song “Juízo Final“, the artist seeks to mirror in the image one of its best known verses – “love will be eternal again” – taking the sacrifice of a serpent as a metaphor of the annihilation of everything that it is perverse, petty and harmful.
May a lot of light reach all hearts in 2022!

Slave Insurrections in Brazil – Our represented artist Kika Carvalho has her painting “Encruzilhada” highlighted on the cover of the book “Slave Insurrections in Brazil”, which brings together 14 essays on the most important revolts against the slave regime in Brazil, its causes, protagonists and consequences. Launched by Companhia das Letras and oorganized by João José Reis and Flavio dos Santos Gomes, the book features essays by Eduardo Spiller Pena, Flávio dos Santos Gomes, Iacy Maia Mata, Isadora Moura Mota, João José Reis, Luiz Geraldo Silva, Lara de Melo dos Santos, Luiz Felipe de Alencastro, Marcos Ferreira de Andrade, Maria Helena P. T. Machado, Mário Maestri, Paulo Roberto Staudt Moreira, Ricardo Pirola, Ricardo Tadeu Caires Silva, Thiara Bernardo Dutra e Yuko Miki.
Maracanã – when the city was a terreiro -Dispalying its cover illustrated by our represented artist Mulambö over a photo by Ricardo Beliel, professor and historian Luiz Antonio Simas’ book – released by Mórula Editorial – is the result of a six year research, an exercise of thinking Brazil through the iconic football stadium located in the northern side of Rio de Janeiro. According to a review written by Irlan Simões, Simas starts from the memories and uses of common people and from the intersection of social history with popular imagination to compose the account of a monument that shaped the country we know and live in. To illustrate the cover, Mulambö chose to pay homage to some football clubs in the colors of clothes worn by women “who make the ground of this city a terreiro”.
ELLE Magazine / December issue – Our represented artist Gustavo Nazareno has been invited to collaborate in the latest issue of Elle magazine, out this month. In this special issue, which celebrates the life and career of Milton Nascimento, the magazine also invited philosopher and journalist Djamila Ribeiro to do an interview with the singer and composer from Minas Gerais. Illustrating the section, Gustavo presents three new oil paintings and two charcoal drawings – works that portray Milton from his research universe, guided by the Afro-Brazilian Yoruba pantheon.
