Portas Vilaseca is pleased to present “On the promises we made”, Kika Carvalho’s first solo show at the gallery.
Featuring a critical text by curator Marcelo Campos, the exhibition brings together around 30 works from the artist’s most recent production, including paintings, drawings, collages and cyanotype photos.
In common, these works have the color blue as a motif under constant investigation by the artist. Starting from her overseas relationship with the Mother Continent and her speculative restlessness in search of hidden stories, Carvalho follows a fluid path, leaving Vitória (Espírito Santo), passing through Salvador and Nova Viçosa (Bahia) until arriving in Luanda, Angola, where she recently participated in the Angola AIR Residency Programme. In this incessant movement, affections are built, certainties crumble and more doubts come to the fore.
The opening takes place this following Saturday (September 10) – starting at 3 pm – and the exhibition continues until October 22.
