Portas Vilaseca Galeria took part in the main session of Arco Madrid 2024 with a special project featuring a selection of works by Guatemalan artist Antonio Pichillá Quiacaín in dialogue with the production of Brazilian artist Ayrson Heráclito, including videos, photographs, sculptures, paintings, objects and fabric works.
The two artists’ research focuses on ancestral spirituality and reflects on various healing processes preserved by indigenous peoples and Afro-descendant ethnic communities in Latin America. Both of them develop their works in a historical-political zone marked by acts of racist violence and circulate in the territory of history in search of a voice that says what has not been said, shedding light on the world views that have been made invisible. It is in this silence that the works gain strength and find a voice, where the ritual acts of historical healing with their convening potential are embodied, through their dance practices, offerings, songs, gestures and actions.
