The installation “Barrueco III” (2003) by Ayrson Heráclito is one of the highlights of the group show “Acará: Delicate Insurgence,” on view at Galeria Verve in São Paulo. Curated by researcher Ana Paula Rocha, the exhibition explores the balance between strength and sensitivity in Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian cultures, based on the concept of “acará,” which refers both to fire rituals and to species of fish.
Nádia Taquary also participates with “Iroko“, a work from her iconic series “Dinkas Orixás“. Completing the exhibition are works by artists Ana Beatriz Almeida, Eustáquio Neves, Emanoel Araujo, Jaider Esbell, Lita Cerqueira, Maria Auxiliadora, Maria Lira Marques, Moisés Patrício, Paulo Nazareth, Sidney Amaral and Shai Andrade.
The exhibition is inaugurated in dialogue with the show “Posesión”, a solo exhibition by Cuban artist Carlos Martiel, opening on the same day, highlighting the dual engagement of the selected artists, who create political proposals as insurgent as they are aesthetically rigorous and delicate.
On view until 24 October. More information: www.vervegaleria.com
