Brazilian artist Nádia Taquary takes part in the group show “Ocupação Mulherio,” on view until 5 October at Danielian Galeria in Rio de Janeiro. Curated by Marcus de Lontra Costa, Viviane Matesco and Rafael Fortes Peixoto, the exhibition features 5 solo shows by women artists – an offshoot of an idea that began in 2022 with the “Mulherio” exhibition, which brought together works by 35 artists from different generations, backgrounds and poetics.
Taquary’s works comprise the “Tides” sector and address questions of the feminine from the Yoruba cosmogony, recovering traditions from matriarchal societies such as the Ìyàmì, the Great Ancestral Mothers. Monumental bronze sculptures, watercolours and wooden pieces with beads, straws, threads and metals will be on display, bringing back the ancestral legacy of pre-colonial Africas. Also taking part in the show are Nelly Gutmacher, Niura Bellavinha, Sonia Menna Barreto and Marcia Barrozo Do Amaral (in memorium).
The participation of Nádia Taquary in this project has the collaboration and institutional support of Portas Vilaseca.
