NEW REPRESENTATION: MARCONE MOREIRA

We are pleased to announce the commercial representation of Brazilian artist Marcone Moreira.

Born in the northeastern state of Maranhão and based in Marabá (a city in the norhern state of Pará), Moreira began his artistic experiments in the late 90s and, since then, has participated in several exhibitions across the country and abroad. His work incorporates various languages, such as painting, sculpture, video, object, photography and installation.

His research is associated with the memory of worn-out materials imbued with culturally constructed meanings. In his artistic practice, he develops a working methodology that focuses on the appropriation, displacement and symbolic exchange of materials.

By announcing Moreira’s representation, we strengthen a partnership that started earlier this year – as a guest artist, he participated in the second edition of the Verão na Vila program, presenting the solo show Fractures, which featured a critical text by poet and writer Eucanaã Ferraz.

Other relevant solo exhibitions include: ‘Exaustos’, Casa das Onze Janelas, Belém (2018); ‘Linhas de Força’, Palácio das Artes, Belo Horizonte (2017); ‘Marcone Moreira’, Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro (2016) and ‘Território líquido’, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo (2015).

In recent years, he has taken part in important group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, including: ‘Tanto Mar’, Espaço Santa Catarina, Lisbon, Portugal (2020); ‘VAIVÉM’, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2019); ‘From the Margin to the Edge’, Somerset House, London, UK (2012); ‘The first 10 years’, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, Brazil (2011); ‘Paradoxos Brasil’. Rumos Visuais, Itaú Cultural, São Paulo, Brazil (2006); ‘Desarranjos’, Museu do Marco, Vigo, Spain (2005); ‘Panorama da Arte Brasileira’, Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo, Brazil (2003).

Marcone has also received several awards and research grants, including the ‘Marcantônio Vilaça Award’ (2010 and 2011); the Visual Arts Production “Stimulus” Grant, Funarte (2013) and the “Pampulha” Grant (2005).
