Inhotim Institute has inugurated at Galeria Lago the exhibition “Quilombo: life, problems and aspirations of the black”, which continues the museum’s research on the work of the artist, poet, playwright and activist Abdias Nascimento. At this stage, the focus is on the newspaper that names the show, edited by Teatro Experimental do Negro between 1948 and 1950. Split into 5 sections, the exhibition seeks to establish a dialogue between the themes raised by the publication with the recent production of Brazilian artists whose works are now part of the Inhotim collection. Among the 34 participating artists and collectives, 4 of them are represented by Portas Vilaseca: Mulambö, Pedro Neves, Kika Carvalho and Gustavo Nazareno.
Highlighted on the gallery below is Mulambo’s work “O couro come“, especially conceived for the show – 28 paintings applied in leather on wood that form a panel full of stories of affection and resistance. About the work, he comments: “Whether it’s a scar, whether it’s a tattoo, our skin is strengthened, our body is fed, ‘o couro come’.” Completing the gallery are works by Pedro Neves, Kika Carvalho and Gustavo Nazareno on display in the show.
