In the 10th edition of ArtRio, which took place from 14 to 18 October 2020 at Marina da Glória (Rio de Janeiro), we presented a special selection with new works by MULAMBÖ and RAFAEL BARON, two artists the gallery started to represent in 2020.
Born in 1995 in Saquarema (RJ), MULAMBÖ presents his most recent production, which brings together paintings on various supports and techniques that deal with strength and resistance, influenced by elements of Brazilian popular culture, particularly samba and its ancestral roots. For this edition of the fair, the artist will show works from the series “Fundamento”, “Feijoada” and “Pagode”, in addition to the painting “Mãe Baiana Mãe” and the flag-painting “Ao povo em forma de arte” (To the people in the form of art), inspired by a samba song composed by Nei Lopes and Wilson Moreira.
Born in 1986 in Nova Iguaçu (RJ), RAFAEL BARON presents a set of unpublished paintings that emerge from studies and researches on the human figure, which basically takes the entire space of the canvas. Abstract backgrounds, expressive brushstrokes and the use of vivid colors propel these figures forward, and they gain a certain unity, vigor and mystery with the black smudges of the eyes and the distinct red lips. In addition, when named by the artist, each figure seems to express its personality and suggest a story, instigating the observer’s imagination.
