Between 24 and 27 September, Portas Vilaseca Galeria participates in the first edition of the Latitude Art Fair, which takes place online in a partnership with the Artsy platform.
Don’t miss our virtual booth with the most recent production in painting by artists Mulambö and Rafael Baron at www.artsy.net/latitude-art-fair-2020.
Mulambö explores the forces that embody peripheral existence in Rio de Janeiro. According to the artist, his works exist to shorten distances and to affirm that there is no museum in the world like our grandmother’s house. For Latitude Art Fair 2020, Mulambö has developed a new series of paintings, named “The Sea”, in which he deals with the relationship between men and the sea. The series is about men who are born and grow close to the sea and the importance of the sea in their construction as a force. The artist grew up in Saquarema, a city located in the state of Rio de Janeiro’s lake district, on the edge of the “Vila” beach. The sea – from its movement, smell, color and life – shaped his life, not only as an artist, but also as a man. The sea is protection, the sea is home, the sea is path and destination.
Rafael Baron, on the other hand, presents a set of unpublished paintings that emerge from studies and researches on the human figure, which basically takes the entire space of his canvases. Abstract backgrounds, expressive brushstrokes and the use of vivid colors propel these figures forward, and they gain a certain unity, vigor and mystery with the black smudges of the eyes and the distinct red lips. In addition, when named by the artist, each figure seems to express its personality and suggest a story, provoking the observer’s imagination.
The fair is organized by Latitude (Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad) and promoted by ABACT (Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
