The second edition of the program “Verão na Vila” marks the kickoff of the 2024 exhibition season at Portas Vilaseca, with the opening of “Fractures“, the latest solo show by artist Marcone Moreira, featuring a critical text by poet and writer Eucanaã Ferraz.
In addition to the exhibition at the gallery space, Arthur Palhano‘s pop-up show “Tábulas” will also be inaugurated. Curated by Lucas Albuquerque and mentored by Karla Portas, this show takes place in a ceramics studio located in the village of houses where Portas Vilaseca is also located.
The two events happen simultaneously this Saturday (24), starting at 2 pm, at Rua Dona Mariana, 137 – Botafogo. Admission is free.

Fractures
“Fractures” will showcase the evolution and innovative trajectories of Marcone Moreira‘s groundbreaking artistic research on the naval universe, taking up two floors of the gallery building with around 20 works, including paintings, objects and installations.
Writer and poet Eucanaã Ferraz, who signs the critical text, comments: “As a material reality, the fracture doesn’t just expose the past; above all, it reveals the decay of every presence and of the present. As an archaeological fragment of a ruin, it triggers in us the memory or fantasy of a lost totality, but it also anticipates the future destruction of what today seems whole, useful, perennial.”

Tábulas
The pop-up exhibition “Tábulas” presents a series of new works by artist Arthur Palhano, a result of an immersive process led and coordinated by designer and ceramist Karla Portas in her studio space.
Palhano exchanges the oily pigment of his canvases for engobes, creating fat masses of colored clay over which he digs, layer by layer, like an archaeologist who defines his field of interest in the search for a specific artifact.
In his critical text, curator Lucas Albuquerque comments: “Between the hand of the ceramist who prepares the board, the spatula of the artist who excavates the strata and the heat that contracts everything, we glimpse the dance of zigzag gestures across the surface – now a result of the obsessive trail of excavation, sometimes a result of the thin layer of engobe that expands and reveals the color in the background, in a beautiful conversation between two orders of life: human and mineral.”
