We are pleased to announce the commercial representation of artist No Martins.
Born in 1987 in São Paulo, where he lives and works, No Martins first established himself as a graffiti artist. As a student, he attended printmaking workshops at Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade – where he was tutored by artists such as Rosana Paulino and Kika Levy –, and also attended graduate classes in History and Visual Arts.
His practice moves through painting, performance, installation and experimentation with objects, and it is based on researches on interpersonal relationships in everyday life amid issues such as racism, police violence and mass incarceration.
In the last ten years, Martins has been participating in solo and collective shows in Brazil and abroad. Among them, we highlight the critically acclaimed collective exhibition “Afro-Atlantic Stories”, which took place in 2018 at MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo and at Tomie Ohtake Institute. Most recently, in 2019, the artist was awarded the Sesc Contemporary Art Prize, for his participation in the 21st Contemporary Art Biennial Sesc_VideoBrasil, in which he presented the series #JaBasta!, a set of paintings reflecting on the police violence and on the criminalization of the black young population who live in the outskirts of large cities in Brazil.
