Artist Zé Carlos Garcia takes part in the collective exhibition “Ensaios sobre paisagem” (Essays on Landscape), on show at Inhotim‘s Lago Gallery. Curated by Douglas de Freitas and Deri Andrade, the show is one of the highlights of the institution’s April programme, along with solo exhibitions by Grada Kilomba and Paulo Nazareth.
Around 10 of Garcia’s works – which are part of the Inhotim collection – are displayed alongside works by artists Aislan Pankararu, Ana Cláudia Almeida and Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro. The purpose of the exhibition is to amplify discussions about nature through various artistic practices, such as painting, drawing, photography and sculpture.
The album highlights some of these works, in which organic features form the basis of totemic sculptures. The northeastern landscape and its archaeological links serve as a motif for the hybrid forms sculpted by Garcia in wood from forest management.
