Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
Claudia Hersz’s restless gaze is always eager to explore, collect, and combine references drawn from art history and culture. By remixing these references like a visual DJ, the artist sheds light on issues such as forgery, fetishization, and authority, while creating a very particular universe through pieces like miniature objects, assemblages, drawings, and paintings on tapestries or porcelain.
Recent solo exhibitions include: “Um Mao por dia,” curated by Alexandre Sá, Museu da Chácara do Céu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2022); “É Débito ou Crédito?”, curated by Ivair Reinaldim, Portas Vilaseca Galleria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2017). Throughout her career, she has received the following awards: Acquisition Award, São Paulo City Collection, São Paulo, SP, Brazil (2012); Acquisition Award, 17th Small Formats Salon – UNAMA, Belém, PA, Brazil (2011); Urban Interferences Award, Aterro do Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil (2008); Master Key Award, União Nacional dos Economiários – UNEI, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil (2007); VIII International Digital Art Salon, Havana, Cuba (2006); X Bahia Salon, Salvador, BA, Brazil (2003); and 1st Contemporary Art Salon of São José dos Campos, Cassiano Ricardo Cultural Foundation, São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil (2002).
