Represented by Portas Vilaseca, artists Mano Penalva, Marcone Moreira and Randolpho Lamonier take part in the exhibition “Joaquín Torres García – 150 Years”, engaging in dialogue with the legacy of one of the leading figures of Latin American modern art. The exhibition is on view at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil São Paulo and delves into the ideas of Constructive Universalism and the pedagogy of the Taller Torres García, which advocated an art practice rooted in the cultural references of Latin America.
Penalva participates with four works and a drawing study from his Ventana series, which brings together painting, object and architecture, exploring relationships between interior and exterior, visual impression and physical perception. Moreira, in turn, presents a work from his series based on the appropriation of boat timbers, in which materials marked by use and circulation evoke memory, territory and traditional modes of construction. Lamonier presents a work from his iconic Prophecies series, which weaves together symbolic and political statements to project visions of the future shaped by a desire for social transformation.
Curated by Saulo di Tarso, in collaboration with the Museo Torres García, the exhibition brings together around 500 items, including paintings, drawings, previously unseen manuscripts, maquettes and the celebrated wooden toys produced by the family of the Uruguayan artist.
