After being presented in several exhibitions, including “Um Oceano para Lavar as Mãos” at Sesc Quitandinha in 2023 (see gallery below), the monumental installation “Puxada de Rede” [ Dragging a net ] by artist Nádia Taquary arrives at the National Museum of Afro-Brazilian Culture (Muncab) in Salvador. This work is part of the “Raízes” exhibition, which opens to the public this weekend.

Curated by Jamile Coelho and Jil Soares, the group show features over 200 works by 70 artists from Brazil, Angola, Senegal, Guinea, and Congo. It is divided into five thematic sections spread over two floors: Origins, Sacred, Streets, Afrofuturism, and Bembé do Mercado.

“Puxada de Rede” highlights black female protagonism through the intricate and opulent Afro-Brazilian jewelry, such as the articulated fish, a recurring symbol in this craft. This jewelry also embodies stories of struggle, resistance, resilience, and freedom.
