We invited the represented artist Ismael Monticelli to sign the gallery’s year-end card for 2024. Drawing inspiration from The Catch (1945) by Victor Vasarely, Monticelli recreates the ambiguity of the painting, where two intertwined human silhouettes suggest either a dance or a struggle. On this tension, the artist overlays an excerpt from Bertolt Brecht’s short play The Trial of Lucullus (1940): “It was the victor who wrote the history of the defeated. The triumphant distorts the features of the vanquished. The weaker abandons the world, and what remains is the lie.”

With this image, Portas Vilaseca expresses its hopes that in 2025 we may see and hear other stories beyond the dominant narratives that echo in times marked by wars, new colonizations, and political disputes.

May the coming year be a time for listening, openness, and transformation.

Happy Holidays!

The gallery will be closed for the New Year’s break from December 23, 2024, to January 6, 2025. The exhibition “Lost & Found”, Íris Helena’s new solo show, will reopen on January 7, 2025, running until January 18, 2025.
