FGV Arte opens this Thrusday at 7 pm the exhibition “Afro-Brazility: A Tribute to Two Valentins and an Emanoel“, curated by Paulo Herkenhoff and João Victor Guimarães.
Bringing together more than 300 works—including paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, and historical documents—the group show celebrates the richness and diversity of Afro-Brazilian artistic production. It features iconic figures such as Aleijadinho, Mestre Valentim, and Mestre Athaíde alongside contemporary artists like Ayrson Heráclito, Kika Carvalho, Marcone Moreira, Mulambö, Nádia Taquary, and Silvana Mendes.
The curators invite viewers to explore the multiple dimensions of Afro-Brazilian identity, highlighting artistic contributions from different regions of the country. The exhibition also fosters dialogue with literary voices such as Machado de Assis and Carolina Maria de Jesus.
On view until August. More information: portal.fgv.br/fgv-arte
