The Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro presents “Shapes of Water”, a group show that marks the opening of the institution’s exhibition year, curated by Raquel Barreto and Pablo Lafuente.

Featuring over 40 works in various formats by 14 artists from different geographies and generations, the show highlights events that took place in Guanabara Bay, shaping the histories of the museum and the city, while also offering immersive experiences.

One of the exhibition’s highlights is artist Nádia Taquary, with a commissioned piece titled “Omi Òkun Ayérayé“. The work depicts Iemanjá, the female deity associated with the sea in Afro-diasporic religions, revered as the great “mother of waters.” Made with glass beads in various shades of blue, Cumaru wood and stainless steel, the piece explores themes such as the sacred, the feminine, and the ancestral.

“Shapes of Waters” has the institutional support of Portas Vilaseca Galeria and runs until June 1st.
