Artist Randolpho Lamonier – whose solo show “Carnaval Crypto” is on view at Portas Vilaseca – is one of the highlights of the exhibition ‘Underdeveloped Art’, which arrives at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Centre in Rio de Janeiro, following a season at the institution’s locations in Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte.
Curated by Moacir dos Anjos, the group show is organized by decades and thematic axes, featuring works by more than 40 artists centered around the concept of “underdevelopment”—a term coined after World War II to describe the economic and social conditions of countries considered poor, which today are referred to as “emerging” or “developing countries.”
Lamonier presents “Refrigerator Dreams – Hallelujah 2000th Century”, a monumental installation commissioned specifically for this exhibition, which occupies the unit’s central hall. The work brings together objects that embody the consumer dreams of working-class people, as heard by the artist on the streets of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.
On show until May, 5. Don’t miss it!
